Diesel Technician and Mechanic

Job Overview: Holtec International, a turnkey supplier of technologies for the worldwide nuclear power industry is seeking a versatile and skilled Diesel Technician and Mechanic with experience in tracked vehicles to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, vehicles, and hydraulic components, with a specific focus on tracked vehicles. Additionally, strong computer skills and proficiency in repairing and troubleshooting DC 12V and 24V electrical systems are required for this role. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality workmanship are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on diesel engines, tracked vehicles, and hydraulic systems, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and hydraulic fluid changes.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and tracked vehicles using diagnostic tools, equipment, and computer software.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and tracked vehicles, including engines, transmissions, tracks, suspensions, brakes, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • Conduct inspections and testing to ensure diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and tracked vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
  • Keep accurate digital records of all maintenance and repair work performed on diesel engines, tracked vehicles, hydraulic systems, and general automotive repairs.
  • Utilize diagnostic software to analyze and troubleshoot complex issues with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and tracked vehicle electronics.
  • Maintain familiarity with tracked vehicle systems and components, including track tensioning systems, powerpacks, and perform troubleshooting and repairs as necessary.
  • Repair and troubleshoot DC 12V and 24V electrical systems in diesel engines, vehicles, and tracked vehicles, including wiring, batteries, alternators, and electronic components.
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines and specifications for maintenance and repair procedures, particularly for tracked vehicle systems and electrical systems.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow and prioritize tasks.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with clients and addressing their concerns or questions regarding tracked vehicle performance and maintenance.
  • Stay current with advancements in diesel engine technology, hydraulic systems, tracked vehicle mechanics, and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; demonstrated experience as a Diesel Technician, Mechanic, or similar role, with a minimum of five (5) of hands-on experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, vehicles, and tracked vehicles.
  • Completion of military or vocational/technical training program in diesel mechanics and automotive mechanics is preferred.
  • Familiarity with tracked vehicle systems and components is essential.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, equipment, and computer software to identify and repair diesel engines, hydraulic system, and tracked vehicle problems.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics, particularly those related to tracked vehicle systems and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures when working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, tracked vehicles, and heavy machinery.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in executing repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in diagnostic software and digital record-keeping systems.
  • Experience in repairing and troubleshooting DC 12V and 24V electrical systems in diesel engines, vehicles, and tracked vehicles.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel frequently up to 50%.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and occasional weekends, especially during peak seasons or emergencies.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in Diesel Technology and Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair is a plus.
